Jackson Neighborhood Play Streets

EVENT DATE: April 29, 2022 from 4-9pm

NEIGHBORS TURN STREET INTO A BLOCK PARTY TO SLOW DRIVERS DOWN AROUND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

FRESNO’S FIRST Play Streets event is happening in the Jackson Neighborhood to raise awareness about traffic safety around Jackson Elementary.

Neighbors are fed up with drivers blowing through stop signs, doing donuts in intersections, and speeding down streets. This large-scale block party raises awareness for traffic safety by changing driver behavior through a variety of interactive experiences mixed with a carnival for Jackson residents.

This effort is part of a Jackson Neighborhood Safe Streets Pilot Program modeled after other cities across America that successfully changed driver behavior in neighborhoods with small scale improvements and Play Streets events. Launa Grunau, Jackson Neighborhood Association lead and resident of the Jackson Neighborhood said, “We have collected over 150 traffic safety surveys and over 50 volunteers are running this event. This Play Streets event will give tangible and immediate action to making our neighborhood streets safer and more pedestrian friendly while we continue to work with the City of Fresno’s council members District 5 Luis Chavez and District 7 Nelson Esparza, to identify more permanent safety solutions.”

This event is sponsored by many sponsors including the offices of Luis Chavez, Nelson Esparza, Every Neighborhood Partnership, Neighborhood Church, Fresno Fire, and Jackson Elementary.

Attend the event at Jackson Elementary, 3750 E Platt Ave, Fresno, CA 93702.
